No plan to dissolve Kano emirates, says govt

The Kano State Government has said that it has no plan to desolve  the new emirates established by the immediate past Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

It could be recalled that the immediate past Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, 2019, signed a law splitting the Kano emirate into five, with four new emirates created in the process and deposed the then Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.

Ganduje had dethroned Sanusi over “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor”, and had appointed Aminu Ado Bayero as the new emir.

However, the Governor, in a statement by Sanusi Tofa, his chief press secretary, said the government is not dissolving the new emirates to reinstate Sanusi II, as is being speculated in the social media, adding that it only sent a request to appoint 20 special advisers.

The statement reads, “No decision yet taken on the status of the new emirates established by the previous administration.”

“Contrary to the rumours circulating in social media, Kano state government has not taken any decision yet on the new emirates as speculated.

“The engagements between executive and legislative arms of government in Kano will be open and transparent to allow the good people of Kano access to information on major policies and decisions of the NNPP led administration.

“His excellency has submitted a request to appoint 20 special advisers which was graciously approved by the state assembly in its maiden sitting today.

“It is expected that the list of nominees for commissioners who will serve the next cabinet would be sent to the assembly next week for confirmation.”
