“No intimidation, no witch-hunt” – Olohungbebe seeks teachers’ support for education reforms

The Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, has assured teachers across the state that his office will not be used for intimidation or victimisation.

He urged them to support the government’s efforts in transforming the education sector.

Olohungbebe made the statement on Thursday while receiving executives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), and the Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON) at his office.

“I will not use my office to intimidate or witch-hunt any teacher. Let’s work together to improve education in Kwara. I encourage you all to remain committed, productive, and avoid actions that could harm your future,” he said.

He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for prioritising teachers’ welfare, stressing the end of irregular salary payments ‘geri gedi’ as a major achievement that has boosted workers’ dedication to their duties.

Dr Olohungbebe reassured teachers that the government would continue to address their welfare needs, ensuring a better working environment.

In his remarks, the NUT State Chairman, Comrade Yusuf Wahab, congratulated the commissioner on his appointment and praised the government for its prompt payment of salaries and teacher promotions.

He also urged the government to implement Teachers’ Specific Allowances (TSA), provide financial backing for promotions, and extend the retirement age from 60 to 65 years to retain experienced educators.

The meeting was attended by Kwara State ANCOPSS President, Comrade Baba Saliu; Kwara State AOPSHON Chairman, Comrade Ayodeji Babafemi; Principal Assistant Secretary General, Mr Moni Mike Modesty Itua; and other union executives.
