Kwara LEARN, a project that has transformed educational system – Education Commissioner

Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, has welcomed the achievements of Kwara LEARN. This project has transformed the education sector in the state.

The Commissioner gave this commendation recently while fielding questions from the delegation of the Kwara LEARN Development Partner, which paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry.

Olohungbebe emphasized that Kwara LEARN is a legacy project that the state’s residents are proud of, adding that it has really transformed the education system from the foundation.

He said, “Our records have shown that students’ performances have improved since the commencement of the project in the State. I need to add that I have visited a number of schools to observe how the Tabs work and I was impressed with what I saw in terms of the mastery of the technology by our teachers and the impact the intervention is having on education in the State. The impact of the intervention is not only appreciated by the government but also other stakeholders, including parents and civil societies.”

Speaking further, the Commissioner assured the delegation of the state government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment towards achieving sustainability of the project in the State.

“We have to ensure that we are futuristic as Kwara LEARN has opened our minds to how we can deploy educational technologies, including the emerging AI and robotics, to drive an all-inclusive development. I want to implore our partner to incorporate these new technologies into its system”, Dr. Olohungbebe said.

In his remarks, the Head of Education, Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Dr. Jatou Sey Haddj, said the purpose of her team’s visit to the State was to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the project, while seeking insights into stakeholders’ reactions to the outcomes of the intervention.

Dr. Haddj revealed that the team has visited different schools and interacted with pupils, teachers and head teachers on their expectations of the technology, saying “We were impressed with how the technology has transformed education in the State. We are satisfied with what we saw on the field.”

She also applauded the Kwara State Government for its commitment to education, stating that ICESCO was committed to providing support for members states in promoting inclusive education, fighting climate change and providing education technologies.
