NNPP’s Bid to Contest Gov Sule’s Victory Rejected by Tribunal
The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Lafia has dismissed the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) petition challenging Governor Abdullahi Sule’s election as Nasarawa state’s Governor.
The tribunal ruled that the petition lacked merit and did not award any costs.
In the March 20 election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Governor Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner with the highest vote count.
He secured 209 votes, defeating David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 283,016 votes, and Abdullahi Maidoya of the NNPP, who garnered 11,726 votes.
Unsatisfied with the election results, both the PDP and NNPP, along with their respective gubernatorial candidates, sought to invalidate Sule’s victory.
The three-man panel, chaired by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, delivered the virtual judgment in Lafia.
