NLC can only bark, can’t bite – Civil servants

Zamfara State Civil servants have condemned the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in the state, describing it as a toothless bull dog that can only bark but cannot bite.

While addressing newsmen in Gusau, the capital of the State, some civil servants condemned the labor union, referring to the threats of the national leadership of the Congress.

The Informant247 observes that the NLC has vowed to mobilize workers from various parts of the federation for a solidarity industrial action, if the government fails to effect the N30, 000 minimum wage before the ultimatum given to them expires.

A civil servant who spoke in anonymity, said the labour leaders were not serious.

“The State Council of the Congress has sent strike notices to the State government on several occasions to implement the N30, 000 minimum wage but nothing came out of those noises.

“The national president of the Congress, Mr. Ayuba Wabba even mentioned that only Zamfara State has not implemented the national minimum wage since 2019 but he has been keeping quiet since then.

“The Congress is weak in the State, that is why the State government has not been moved over their threats and the government sees the threats as empty propaganda that can be thrown into another waste paper basket,” he said.

He has sent message of appeal to the NLC to let the government workers to collect the little salaries they are receiving from the State government, as the State government may decide to devise a ‘no work, no salary’ strategy against the workers of the state if they embark on industrial strike.

The civil servant confessed that the government of the State had not yet been paying the N18,000 minimum wage, reaffirming that some workers at the local government levels were still collecting below N6,500 as monthly salary.
