Nine persons trapped as one storey building sinks in Lagos

Nine persons are currently trapped as one storey building has been reported to be sinking in Maryland area of Lagos.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has revealed that the house is situated at 47 Akinwunmi Street, Akinwunmi North Estate Mende, Maryland, Ikeja.

The spokesperson of the agency in the South-West Region, Ibrahim Farinloye, has said that the agency got a distressed call about one storey building reported to be sinking and in which nine persons are reported to be trapped.

“NEMA advance team close observations called for more reinforcement of personnel. One of the trapped victims, Ms Blessing disclosed that they are up to none people mostly women that are trapped.”

“The landlord of the building had use ladder to escape but NEMA questioned him for failure to contact emergency responders but someone from one of the trapped victim’s office contacted NEMA. The Agencies now are LASEMA, State Fire Service and Police Disaster Management Unit. Rescue activities have commence” he added.
