NiMet forecasts three days of heavy downpour in 14 states
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned of imminent moderate to heavy rainfall across 14 states, as the forecast predicts three consecutive days of rain starting Wednesday, May 28th, through Friday, May 30th.
The affected states include Bayelsa, Rivers, parts of Delta, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Abia, the Federal Capital Territory, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Niger.
In the agency’s heavy rainfall bulletin, it was noted that “strong winds may accompany the rains,” leading to concerns about flash flooding in several areas.
NiMet has urged the public to exercise caution, stating, “Do not drive through surface runoff waters, as they can have strong undercurrents.” The agency also warned about the potential hazards of slippery roads and reduced visibility, which could result in traffic disruptions.
