The Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), on Monday, donated relief materials to victims of flood disaster and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Kwara state.
The Director-General of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, while presenting the materials, said the donation was part of the agency’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to ameliorate the plight of victims of banditry and other forms of insecurity in the state.
The DG who was represented by the Coordinator, Abuja Zonal Office, Hajia Moji Jimoh, said the gesture will go a long way to make life easier for the beneficiaries.
He added that the items donated were mattresses, cartons of noodles, bags of garri, rice, sugar, yam tubers, spaghetti, sewing/grinding machines, tricycles and welding equipment amongst others.
Meanwhile, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Manman Jibril, who spoke on behalf of the governor, said that the displaced persons are highly in need of basic requirements of life and needed to be assisted by the government and other agencies.
Jubril noted that the effort of NIMASA will complement what the state government had been doing.
He assured the team that the items would not be diverted but made to those who really need them.
