2023: Kwankwaso won’t be Peter Obi’s running mate – NNPP debunks rumor

The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, on Sunday debunked reports that its presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso would run for the 2023 presidential election as a running mate of the Labour Party’s candidate, Peter Obi.

National Publicity Secretary of NNPP, Dr Agbo Major, who stated this in Abuja on Sunday, said contrary to reports, there was never a time such a discussion or negotiation was held between Kwankwaso and Obi.

Kaduna govt dismisses 2,357 teachers

The Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (KADSUBEB) says it has sacked 2,357 teachers who did not pass the recently conducted competency test.

The spokesperson of the board, Mrs Hauwa Mohammed, via a statement on Sunday in Kaduna, revealed that the Board has organized a competency test for over 30,000 teachers last year December.

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist, has accused the Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, and other members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, of using vote buying to destroy democratic principles.

Recall that there were reports of massive vote buying among other electoral malpractices during the Ekiti gubernatorial election on Saturday.

Ekiti election: SERAP gives INEC 1 week ultimatum to probe, prosecute vote buyers, sponsors

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to commence the probe of financial inducements during the Ekiti gubernatorial election.

The organization has via a letter given the chairman of the electoral body, Professor Mahmood Yakubu an ultimatum of one week to start the probe.

The group has charged the electoral commission to get information about vote-buying, and several other electoral malpractices.

Osun 2022: INEC extends deadline for PVCs collection

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Osun State has extended the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

The Commission has also assured that it would make the PVCs available to every ward across the 31 local government areas in the state from Wednesday, June 22, 2022.

Hajj: First batch of 560 Kwara pilgrims lifted to Saudi Arabia

The first batch of 560 intending Pilgrims from Kwara were on Sunday transported to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from llorin International Airport.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the pilgrims departed the airport aboard Max Airline aircraft at about 5.40 a.m in the presence of relations and well-wishers.

The departure was also witnessed by Dr Awwal Ibrahim, the 2022 KWARA Amirul Hajj and Executive Secretary of the state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Ekiti election: NSCDC officers allegedly hijack party money from politicians

There was confusion at Ward 10 Unit 9, Ilupeju along Ikere -Ado Expressway in Ikere Ekiti, in Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State as some officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps allegedly stormed the polling unit and took away a huge sum of money from some politicians in the unit.

A voter in the unit told the PUNCH on condition of anonymity that the undisclosed amount of money hijacked by the security men was meant to buy votes from the voters in the area.

Abducted journalist, 12 wedding guests regain freedom in Abia

A journalist, Mr Chuks Onuoha, who was kidnapped last Tuesday, by unknown gunmen at his residence in Umuahia, has regained freedom.

This is even as 12 persons who were also kidnapped on their way to a traditional marriage ceremony along the Umuahia – Okigwe federal highway, have been freed.

Onuoha, a former reporter with Sun newspaper was held by the kidnappers who demanded a N10 million ransom.
