KANO, Nigeria (The Informant247) – No fewer than 9 victims of human trafficking, all girls aged between 19 and 55, were rescued in a sting operation in Nigeria’s Kano state, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking In Persons (NAPTIP) said on Tuesday.
The zonal coordinator of the anti-trafficking agency for Kano, Mr Abdullahi Babale, said that two suspected human traffickers were arrested in connection to the case.
He said the victims who were taken from the Southern part of the country are heading to Libya for labour exploitation before they were rescued by the agency with assistance from the police.
He added that the suspected traffickers would be arraigned in court, while the victims would undergo rehabilitation before being reunited with their respective families.
Libya is a source, destination and transit country for human trafficking, with thousands of Nigerian migrants passing through each year en route to Europe.
