Nigeria set to start exporting rice to Egypt

Nigeria has declared readiness to start exporting rice to Egypt.

This came following the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), and Tiamin Rice company.

The MoU is also to foster the processing and sale of rice at local and international stage.

Mr Aliyu Ibrahim, who’s the Deputy Managing Director of Tiamin Rice Company, made this revelation in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.

The Deputy Managing Director also said the initiative was to facilitate the cultivation of quality rice paddy by RIFAN.

He said the agreement was to enable Tiamin process and package with state-of-the-art milling technology for local and international sale especially to Egypt.

He added that the MoU, which will be effective for two years was signed at the company in Bauchi State.

“RIFAN and Tiamin share a common agenda in the area of rice farming and milling.

“This is to ensure a sustainable supply chain management of rice under a partnership that seeks to produce , mill and package processed rice of the highest quality for export and local trading.

“With a combined capacity of 920 tonnes per hour from its two mills in Kano and Bauchi states, Tiamin Rice is one of the largest producers of rice in Nigeria,” he said.

Aliyu said the company also possesses a 10,000 hectare rice farm in the state.

“Though, the company has benefited from six different development finance interventions of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
