Nigeria placed 5th position in Africa, 44th globally in latest FIFA rankings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have recorded the biggest decline from the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday following unimpressive performances in the last international window.

The three-time African champions dropped from 36th to 44th globally in the November rankings, an 8-place decline.

From its previous 1503 total points, the team’s points now stand at 1482.23.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles ranked 5th behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Algeria.

The reason for this poor rating cannot be far-fetched, as the Super Eagles lost to 0-2 lowly-rated Rwanda at home in Uyo and only managed a 1-1 draw with Benin Republic in the last phase of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers.

However, Argentina maintained the top spot in the global rankings, followed by France in second and Spain in third. England and Brazil occupy the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

The rankings reflect a busy international football calendar, including World Cup 2026 qualifiers, AFCON 2025 matches, and Nations League fixtures.
