Niger state reduces NECO debt by N120 million, commits to clearing balance
Niger State has taken steps to alleviate its financial obligations by repaying a portion of its outstanding debt to the National Examination Council (NECO) for Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) fees.
The state had inherited a substantial debt of N500 million from the previous administration, specifically for SSCE fees.
Under the leadership of Governor Umaru Bago, the state government has implemented a monthly payment plan to settle this debt. Since assuming office on May 29, the government has made significant strides by allocating and disbursing N120 million towards this outstanding balance.
Hajiya Binta Mamman, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, shared this update in Minna on Monday. She emphasized that the current administration’s priorities encompass various sectors, including education, security, science and technology, agriculture, commerce, tourism, civil service, health, infrastructure, and urban renewal.
Additionally, Mamman highlighted the importance of local government administration, the traditional institution, revenue generation, and the development of women and youth as key areas of focus for the state government.
