NGO reminds parent, teachers on importance of literacy

In honour of World Read Aloud Day, Worldwide Learning Solutions (ULS), a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), reminded parents, teachers, and guardians of their children’s universal right to read and write.

Mr. Richard Turnbull, Project Manager of the NGO, stated this in a statement received by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Kaduna.

According to NAN, ULS is an NGO that collaborates with the Universal Basic Education Commission to offer Africa’s largest and most effective reading programme, Jolly Phonics.

Turnball regarded a literate kid as every parent’s, educator’s, and guardian’s greatest desire, as well as a significant contribution to society at large.

Today, we have every chance to promote alternate methods of reading teaching and to involve learners outside of the classroom; in that context, we have trained over 6,000 teachers on jolly phonics in the last 12 months.

“Reading aloud and sharing tales aid in the formation of learners’ awareness of their cultural and family value systems.”

“World Read Aloud Day encourages us, in classrooms, families, and communities, to celebrate the simple joy of reading, especially with our children,” he added.

Turnbull went on to say that ULS is a company whose primary goal is to create creative literacy solutions.

He claims that ULS has successfully cooperated with all 36 of Nigeria’s State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) to provide Jolly Phonics instruction.

Records shows that, a Total of 161,379 public school instructors and 6,107 government personnel have received training, affecting 13.2 million students.”

“The Jolly Phonics system is widely considered as the most effective strategy for developing the abilities needed to read and write successfully in English.”

“To complement Jolly Phonics and strengthen children’s comprehension abilities, ULS has designed the ‘Reach for the Star’ readers series of cheap, high-quality decodable reading books formulated to encourage nascent learners,” Turnbull explained.

He urged parents, teachers, and guardians to use the myriad educational advancements available to help develop a more peaceful, progressive, and productive society.

The project manager further stated that the ULS innovations contribute to reducing global illiteracy and enabling youngsters to read aloud.
