PSG would have Kylian Mbappe to thank for rescuing a late victory for them with his injury-time penalty seizing a 2-1 win against Strasbourg on Wednesday.
It was their first action post-world cup and while things went blurry for them, the french hero stepped up to once again proved his worth.
PSG endured an emotional night when
Captain Marquinhos had cancelled out his opener with an own goal and Neymar sent off through a red card.
However, when it seemed uncertain for Christophe Galtier’s side, a 96th-minute spot-kick salvage the moment for the league leader.
The home side enjoyed early dominance and took the lead in the 14th minute when Marquinhos was able to head home Neymar’s free kick.
And while Strasbourg continued to find their way round the game, Marquinhos accidentally diverted a cross from Adrien Thomasson past Gianluigi Donnarumma and straight into his own net.
That Strasbourg got the equalizer, PSG would later be subjected to another round of stormy scenes when Neymar was given a marching order from the game.
The Brazilian was shown a yellow for clipping Thomasson’s face with his hand, before a dive from an Alexander Djiku challenge in the box just a minute later sealed up a bad day in the office for the forward.
PSG were later handed their golden opportunity when Mbappe was deemed to have been fouled in the penalty area by Gerzino Nyamsi four minutes into stoppage time with the former not wasting time to turn it home.
