NDLEA nabs makeup artist attempting to smuggle cocaine at Lagos airport
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully arrested a 43-year-old makeup artist, Adekoya Adebukonla Mary, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 2.20 kilograms of cocaine to India through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.
The arrest occurred on June 16, 2025, following credible intelligence. NDLEA officers monitored Adekoya closely, allowing her to check in her luggage before apprehending her at the boarding gate for her Qatar Airways flight to India via Doha.
Upon a thorough search of her suitcase, officials discovered two large parcels of cocaine expertly concealed within the suitcase’s walls.
Femi Babafemi, spokesperson for the NDLEA, stated, “Adekoya claimed she was traveling to India for fibroid surgery, but investigations revealed she was recruited and funded by a drug baron currently at large.”
The agency is continuing its investigation into the case and is working to identify others involved in the drug trafficking operation.
