NDLEA Commander urges collective action against drug abuse menace in Ilorin Emirate

Stakeholders in Ilorin Emirate are urged to unite in a collective effort to combat the escalating menace of drug abuse, as emphasized by the Kwara Commandant of the National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mallam Muhammed Bashir.

The Commandant, addressing the alarming nature of the issue, made these remarks during the ongoing 2-day capacity building retreat for young leaders of youth development associations across the Kwara Central Senatorial District.

The retreat, currently underway at the Michael Imodu Institute of Labour Studies, boasts an impressive attendance of over 200 participants.

Organized by the Office of the Technical Adviser to Senator Saliu Mustapha on Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Job Creation, the event has brought together leaders of ward youth development associations from various parts of the KWARA Central Senatorial District for a comprehensive Two-Day Capacity Building Retreat.

Emphasizing the theme, “Dangers of and Solutions to Drug Abuse in Ilorin Emirate,” Alhaji Mohammed Bashir Ibrahim, the state commander, drew attention to a troubling statistic revealing that 80% of individuals apprehended for substance abuse in Ilorin Emirate this year fall within the age bracket of 14 to 40 years.

The Capacity Building Retreat is targeted at enhancing the capacities of young leaders in KWARA Central.

As the retreat progresses, participants are anticipated to actively engage in discussions, workshops, and interactive sessions aimed at formulating effective strategies to address and mitigate the dangers posed by drug abuse in the Ilorin Emirate.
