NDLEA Chairman applauds Kwara government’s fight against drug abuse

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) CON, has commended the Kwara State Government for its outstanding commitment and results in the fight against drug abuse, describing the state’s approach as a national model.

Marwa gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by the Special Assistant on Drug Abuse Prevention and Control to the Governor of Kwara State, to the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja. The visit featured the formal presentation of a comprehensive compendium documenting the various initiatives led by the Kwara State Government to curb drug abuse under the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON.

Speaking during the meeting, the NDLEA boss praised Governor AbdulRazaq’s “visionary leadership and proactive stance” in addressing substance abuse through policy, grassroots sensitization, and institutional support. He also acknowledged the contribution of the First Lady of Kwara State, Amb. Prof. Mrs. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, whose advocacy and active involvement have played a pivotal role in the state’s drug prevention efforts.

“The Kwara State Government’s strategy and achievements in drug prevention and control stand out as exemplary. They are a model for other states to learn from,” Marwa stated.

According to details presented during the visit, the Kwara State Government has implemented several impactful initiatives. These include the establishment of the Kwara State Drug Abuse Control Committee, the development of a state-wide drug control strategy, training of over 1,000 stakeholders, extensive awareness campaigns, and strategic partnerships with relevant agencies, including the NDLEA.

NDLEA top management staff who attended the meeting noted that Kwara currently operates the most active Drug Control Committee in the country, with concrete results in prevention, rehabilitation, and community outreach. Marwa credited this success to Governor AbdulRazaq’s consistent support and policy direction.

The visit underscored the tangible impact of Kwara’s drug abuse prevention efforts, which have contributed to a reduction in drug-related crimes and substance abuse cases across the state.

Officials from the Kwara State Government reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining and expanding their efforts. Future plans include deepening outreach to underserved communities and strengthening inter-agency collaboration to ensure more robust and effective drug control interventions.

The NDLEA’s commendation further solidifies Kwara’s growing reputation as a trailblazer in public health and social development initiatives.
