NDLEA arrests 192 suspected drug traffickers in Ebonyi
No fewer than 192 suspected drug traffickers were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) between January and September in Ebonyi State.
The anti drug offence agency also made a seizure of 113.414 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa.
The NDLEA Commander, Mr Iyke Uche, made this revelation while being interviewed by newsmen on Tuesday in Abakaliki.
He further said that the agency also made a seizure of 0.0621kgs methamphetamine, which is locally known as Mkpurummiri, within the reviewed period.
“The seizures were made by our personnel in different locations across communities in the state,” Uche said.
The commander disclosed that Ebony has low number of persons who are into drug business but only has many consumers.
“There is no prevalence drug business here in Ebonyi but there are consumers.
“We counselled a total of 92 drug users in the state in the period under review.
“Most crimes usually take place with the intake of drugs, of course, there are drug enhanced violent crimes.
“So, we will intensity efforts on sensitisations, we are going to strengthen campaigns in schools in order to nip drug abuse in the bud in the state,” the commander said.
Uche made a vow that the agency would continue to work tirelessly to get rid of drug traffickers and abusers in the state.
He therefore called for collaboration and support from media organisations, to assist the sensitisation campaign against the evils of drugs in the state.
