The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has excluded Kwara from the list of states with ongoing laboratory to be activated for inclusion into the agency’s Molecular Lab Network with capacity to test for COVID-19.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had on May 12 said the state will soon get a coronavirus testing laboratory.
The agency via its verified Facebook page on June 9 included Kwara among the states with ongoing preparation for establishment of a COVID-19 Molecular Testing Centre.
Other states awaiting the establishement of the lab as on June 9 included Gombe, Ondo, Ekiti and Abia.
However, Kwara and Abia had been removed from the list as seen on the infographics released on June 17, with Ekiti already completed and Ondo, Gombe still ongoing.
Recall that the Kwara State deputy governor and state COVID-19 technical committee chairman, Kayode Alabi during a delegation visit of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on May 21 said it takes samples to Oyo and Osun states for COVID-19 test.
Alabi while receiving the delegation stressed that Kwara will no longer take samples to Ede in Osun state and Ibadan in Oyo state for test once the centre starts operation.
