NASS Leadership: Tinubu, APC ready to meet lawmakers-elect
The Nigeria’s president elect, Senator Bola Tinubu and members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC are to have a meeting with the newly elected members of the national assembly over leadership of the next assembly.
The Informant247 learned that the meeting would hold this week in Abuja, the nation’s capital ahead of the handing over/ inauguration ceremony of the next assembly on June 5.
The meeting is not unconnected with the struggle for power by interested lawmakers-elect for the positions of Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.
There are speculations that the arrival of the president elect Senator Bola Tinubu from France would put an end to the power struggle.
The Informant247 gathered that members of the party’s NWC are expected to meet with the president elect to resolve the power struggle to prevent the reoccurrence of the 2015 saga which made Senator Bukola Saraki the Senate President and Yakubu Dogara the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim confirmed the tendency of a meeting with the president elect over 10th national assembly leadership.
He said, “We are expecting the President-elect to arrive hopefully from tomorrow (Monday). I may not be sure of the exact date, but I think the NWC meeting will also take place this week after everybody must have returned from the holiday break and their trip from Umrah.”
The lawmakers-elect have called for equity and fairness in the zoning arrangements and also promised to follow the zoning principle of the party.
The Informant247 earlier reported that the president elect returned to Abuja, the nation’s capital on Monday April 24, accompanied by soon to be First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and son, Seyi Tinubu, after spending one month abroad.
The vice president elect Senator Kashim Shettima and other chieftains of the APC received the president elect at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja.
