The Nasarawa State Government has said that it would adopt new and robust strategies in order to promote peace among ethnic nationalities in the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by Ibrahim Addra, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Abdullahi Sule and made available to newsmen in Lafia on Thursday.
The state government said that the new and robust strategies and measures if adopted would forestall breakdown of law and order in the state.
The statement said ” The first Nasarawa State Security Council meeting in the new year was resolved to sustain all efforts to enhance security of lives and property in 2022 and beyond.
“The expanded meeting of the Council convened by the Nasarawa state Governor, Abdullahi Sule reviewed security successes and challenges
“Including the recent attacks in some parts of the state and killings of cattle, particularly in Doma Local Government Area.
“Stakeholders have commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for calling regular meetings, his proactive and reconciliatory approach to security challenges.
“Acknowledged the continuous support of the Nasarawa state government to security agencies and other stakeholders.
“Commended Security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and all critical stakeholders for their commitment to safety of lives, property and peaceful co-existence in the state.
“Resolved to adopt new and robust strategies and measures to forestall breakdown of law and order in the state,” the statement said.
The statement said that several measures was put in place and agreed to by the warring Tiv and Fulani herdsmen to ensure that no further crisis erupts in the state.
“The Tiv community in the state through its President , Mr. Peter Ahemba commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for the measures taken to ensure that lives and property of the Tiv people in the state are secured,
“The leader of the Miyetti Allah in the state, Bala Mohammed Dabo also expressed satisfaction with the measures adopted at the meeting, stressing that they will prevent further security breaches,” the statement also said.
The Tiv and Miyetti Allah leaders stressed that they are satisfied with the measures put in place by the state Government and the proactive efforts of security agencies.
They assured that normalcy had been restored in the affected areas.
The statement further said, ” the meeting, chaired by Gov. Sule had in attendance, the Deputy Governor, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, Secretary to the State Government, ( SSG) Alhaji Muhammed Ubandoma-Aliyu, all the Security Chiefs in the state, traditional rulers, local government chairmen among others. (NAN)
