Napoli failed to close the gap on Serie A leaders Inter Milan as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Sunday.
The visitors had a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the 72nd minute when they were awarded a penalty after Riccardo Calafiori handled Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s cross in the box.
However, Victor Osimhen, who had scored three goals in his previous two games, blazed his spot-kick wide of the post, much to the dismay of his teammates and manager Rudi Garcia.
Napoli dominated possession and created more chances than their hosts, but they could not find a way past Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski, who made several saves to deny Lorenzo Insigne, Matteo Politano and Piotr Zielinski.
Bologna also had some chances of their own, especially in the second half, when they tested Napoli keeper David Ospina with shots from Musa Barrow, Mattias Svanberg and Andreas Skov Olsen.
The result leaves Napoli in seventh place in the table with nine points from five games. Bologna are 11th with six points.
