Naira Crisis: ‘Hoodlums planning to cause violence in Ogun’ – Police

The Ogun State Police Command has revealed that some individuals are making plans to cause trouble and violence in the state, taking advantage of the lingering scarcity of new naira notes in Nigeria.

The police command also revealed that it has got security report that they are also making plans to launch attacks on commercial banks and other public and private institutions operating in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Frank MBA appreciated those residing in the state for their sense of resilience and peacefulness in the face of economic crisis that has rocked the country in recent time.

He assured them of the readiness of police operatives to protect lives and property of the residents of the state.

The Ogun State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the police Commissioner made this revelation at a confidence-building patrol put in place by the police and other security forces.

“The CP further noted that intelligence at the disposal of the Command indicates that some criminal elements are planning to take advantage of the challenging economic situation to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the State,” Oyeyemi said.

He further revealed that the CP warned that the operatives of the police will not allow criminal agents to hide under any guise “to unleash mayhem on residents, private and public property, and critical national infrastructure, including banks and offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).”

He added that all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), have been instructed to apprehend anyone caught causing trouble or violence in the state.
