Mother, 42-yr-old son in court over alleged damage of tenant’s property in Lagos

A mother and her son were on Tuesday docked before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging a tenant’s property valued N4.1 million.

The defendants are a mother identified as Foluke Olabode, and her son identified as a 42 year old transporter, Mathew Olabode.

The two defendants reside at 2, Akinbowale Close, Giwa in Oke Afo area of Ogun.

The defendants were alleged of malicious damage, conspiracy, impersonation, forgery, and stealing.

ASP Raji Akeem who’s the Prosecutor, informed the court that the offences were carried out at 25, Adeniran Falohun St., Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, on Nov. 21, 2021.

The prosecutor informed the court that the defendants allegedly involved the contribution of Mr John Akinlowo, a developer, who is the complainant, to assist to the renovation of their house.

Akeem also explained that there’s an agreement between the parties that the complainant would be in possession of the apartments as reward for his money he used to renovate the house.

The prosecutor also revealed that the complainant was residing in one of the apartments after the renovation was completed.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendants produced a forged letter headed paper to send the complainant packing.

“The first defendant also pretended to be a lawyer,” he said.

“They (allegedly) also stole two desktop computers, jewellery and iphone, all valued N4.1 million, property of the complainant, Mr John Akinlowo,” he said.

The prosecutor revealed that the offences were in contravention of Sections 287, 339, 365, 380 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Mrs B. O. Osunsanmi, who’s the Chief Magistrate, has granted a bail in the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties in likes sum, to the defendants.

The Chief Magistrate, has adjourned the matter until Oct. 24 for hearing.
