The Ilorin Emirate Professors’ Association, IEPA, on Monday, disclosed that no less than 40 members were found worthy of occupying some important positions of responsibilities at the local, state, federal and international levels.
This was disclosed during the 2021 Annual General Meeting, which was held at Hall A, Kwara Hotels in Ilorin.
Present at the meeting both physically and virtually were the guest Lecturer, Emeritus Professor Shuaib Oba AbdulRaheem; the Vice-Chancellor Kwara State University, Prof. Mustapha Akanbi SAN; Chairman Kwara SUBEB, Prof. Abdulraheem Adaramaja; Chairman BOT, Prof. Saka Nuru and others.
Speaking at the event, Professor Sulyman Alege Kuranga, President of IEPA, welcomed all the professors who came from far to Ilorin and State of harmony, saying he is delighted with their various contributions that have moved the association thus far in the discharge of their respective duties.
He said: “For me, and indeed the entire Executive Council of the association, this is a significant AGM as it marks a landmark event for us all, as it is the first to the last year of our two-year, single-term tenure. I remain appreciative of members’ contribution toward the development of this association and also wish that this trend will continue so that the growth of our association will remain steadfast amidst the challenges ahead.
“Accountability, Consolidation, Transparency, Integrity, Oneness, and New paradigm; we have Distinguished great professors, in line with our campaign slogan of ACTION; which stands for being able to pilot the affairs of the association in the last one year by engaging in the following highlighted chronicles of activities. These activities characterized our passion and zeal to move our society to the next level of relevance and greatness.”
Kuranga added that since the new executives came on board to serve the prestigious association they had embarked on various missions to increase their membership.
“It is noteworthy that since we came on board to serve our prestigious association, we have embarked on various missions to increase our membership by erecting and initiating synergies/collaborations with various agencies/institutions, and also bolster existing relationships with llorin Emirate Communities of various institutions in and outside Nigeria.
“I am happy to inform the audience, that apart from the harvested twenty-seven(27)newly elevated Professors of Ilorin Emirate origin across the institutions in Nigeria and other countries, more than forty (40) of the IEPA members were found worthy of occupying some important positions of responsibilities at the local, state, federal and international levels, within the year under review. In the same vein, eight (8) of our erudite professors and scholars successfully delivered their inaugural lectures in their respective fields of endeavours,” he said.
He expressed his deep condolence to the families of the deceased members during the year.
The professor appreciated all governmental and non-governmental institutions and individuals that have given support to IEPA at various levels, assuring them that IEPA will continue to work towards building the llorin Emirate Professors’ Association that all desire.
For his part, the AGM Committee members Chairman, Prof. Abdul Kabir Solihu of Kwara State University, Malete, thanked the IEPA Board of trustees, National Executive Council, and the totality of IEPA members for the warm reception and hospitality displayed towards everyone present at the event.
