Man remanded in prison over alleged rape of 9-year-old girl
A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kaduna on Wednesday directed that one Musa Haruna, 27, be remanded in a correctional facility over alleged attempt to rape a 9-year-old girl.
Ibrahim Emmanuel, the Magistrate, did not welcome the plea of Haruna because of the lack of jurisdiction to hear the case.
He however directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution, Kaduna State for legal advice.
The matter has been adjourned until Sept. 30.
Haruna, who lives at Ungwan Rimi Kaduna, is charged with attempted rape.
Insp. Chidi Leo, the prosecutor, has told the court that the defendant carried out the criminal act on Sept. 2 at his residence.
Leo revealed that the defendant lured the 9-year–old girl into his room and made attempt to rape her.
The prosecutor narrated that the girl’s scream gingered some neighbours to rise to the occasion, rescued the victim and handed the defendant to the police.
The prosecutor added that the offence is a contravention of the provisions of Section 207 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017 (as amended).
