Man bags 8 months imprisonment for stealing iron doors worth N805,000
A 47-year old Adungba Taiwo, was on Wednesday sentenced to eight months imprisonment over theft of 34 pieces of iron doors worth N805,000.
He was sentenced by an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for illegally taking possession of 34 pieces of iron doors worth N805,000.
The Convict, whose address of residence was not disclosed, had pleaded not guilty to the offence of which he has been charged.
Mrs A.O.Adeyemi, the Magistrate, while delivering her judgment, sentenced Taiwo to eight months imprisonment giving him an option to make a payment of N5,000 fine.
She also informed the convict to refund the funds to the complainant.
Insp E.O. Adaraloye, who’s the Prosecutor earlier informed the court that the convict carried out the offence on September 22 around 5:00 p.m. at Arima St. before Odo Eran, Ota.
The prosecutor revealed that the convict received 35 pieces of iron doors belonging to the complainant, with the aim of paying later.
“But instead of fulfilling the agreement between them, he converted the money to personal use,”he said.
He added that the offence was in contravention of the Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
