An unemployed man, Christian Hinhinebe, appeared before an Upper Area Court, Karu, Abuja on Wednesday for allegedly threatening police men on duty.
The defendant who resides in Adon Kasa, Karu LGA of Nassarawa state, has been charged by the police with insult on public officers on duty and criminal intimidation.
Mr Olanrewaju Osho, who’s the Prosecution Counsel, informed the court that the defendant issued a threat to and rained abuses on the police inspector and his team, in September under the Nyanya Bridge in Karu.
He added that the police inspector and his team were exercising their official duty.
Osho also narrated that the defendant also rained abusive language on the police officers with the intent of causing provocation and rancor in the public.
He also revealed that the offence, was in contravention of the provisions of sections 397 and 399 of the Penal Code.
When the matter was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Mr Hassan Mohammed, while presiding over the case, gave the defendant the sum of N100, 000 bail plus one surety who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The judge directed that the surety address must be subjected to the verification of the court officer and the police officer and National I.D card would be at the court.
He also directed the defendant write an undertaking then he will maintain peace in the society.
Mohammed, has, adjourned the matter until November 3 for further hearing.
