Man, 40, in court for allegedly defrauding woman of N136,000 in Ogun
A man, Segun Aliu, 40, was on Monday, dragged before an Ota Magistrates ‘Court in Ogun State, for defrauding a woman of N136,000.
Aliu whose address of residence was not disclosed, has been charged by the Police with conspiracy, fraud and obtaining money under false pretence.
E. O. Adaraloye, the Police Inspector, informed the court that the defendant and others, carried out the offences on October 30, a around 2.00 p.m. along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway, Ota.
Adaraloye made an allegation that the defendant and his allies received N136,000 under pretext from one Olufunso Shoremekun, the complainant with the aim of refunding dollars to her.
He said that the defendant diverted the funds to his personal use instead of converting the money to dollar for the complainant.
The prosecutor also added that the offences were in contravention of Sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
When the matter was read to the defendant, he however, pleaded not guilty to the offences of which he has been charged.
Mrs A. O. Adeyemi, the Magistrate, admitted the defendant to the sum of N100,000 bail plus one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi directed that the surety must live within the juridiction of the court and have reliable source of income with evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.
She has adjourned the matter until December 15 for further hearing.
