The Abia State Police Command executed a successful raid operation that led to the apprehension of eight suspects involved in the illegal drug trade.
The operation took place at Ehere Secondary School in Aba, following credible intelligence that pointed to the school premises being used as a hideout for criminal activities.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Moureen Chinaka, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, on September 24, 2023, police detectives, acting on the gathered intelligence, conducted a thorough cordon, search, and arrest operation.
The PPRO said that the results of this operation were significant, with the arrests of several suspects and the recovery of substantial quantities of Indian hemp and various hard drugs. “These illicit substances were seized as part of the operation’s success.”
She added that the arrested individuals are now facing legal action, having been charged and remanded accordingly after a comprehensive investigation.
The Abia State Police Command has reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring that criminals find no refuge within the state.
In addition to this operation, the police reported other noteworthy activities, including the arrest of a dismissed police officer who attempted to steal an electricity transformer at National High School, Port Harcourt Road, Aba. “The ex-officer was found dressed in police camouflage attire, wearing a fez cap, and carrying a fake police warrant card. Thanks to the swift response of law enforcement, the transformer theft was thwarted, and the stolen property was recovered.”
Furthermore, the Abia police also said that it officers intercepted a tricycle carrying five male occupants on September 24, 2023, leading to the discovery of a cut-to-size, locally fabricated single-barrel short gun loaded with live cartridges. “This incident is currently under investigation by the Monitoring Unit Umuahia.”
Additionally, the police successfully rescued a kidnap victim named Sylvanus Emenegu, who was abducted on September 30, 2023, and held in captivity in a building in Uratta, Isiala Ngwa North LGA. The kidnappers fled upon sighting the police, leaving behind several exhibits, including a motorcycle, foam, and two POS machines. “The victim was safely reunited with his family for medical attention” Chinaka concluded.
