YUSUF MUBARAQ AUTHORITY.
Prior to the 1966 coup, which saw to the inglorious end of the Nigeria first republican government, headed by the great Tafawa Balewa, the then prime minister and head of government. while coming from one of his voyage from around the world and on getting to the airport in Ikeja, a reporter was reportedly asked Balewa about the ranging political inferno building up against his government and the brewing coup particularly from the southwest, which houses the presidential villa. Balewa, as an avid believer in will and fate was reportedly looked around the airport and declared thus “Ikeja is part of southwest, I sensed no danger in Ikeja and everything was relatively calm” He thus threw away the allegation with a flick of his hand, the coup that later consumed him came a month later.
Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, the then western region premier also went to Balewa to press more on him on the need for them to act fast in order to avert the looming danger on their roof, Balewa as usual did not take him serious and instead demanded for a tangible proofs before he could believe any story of coup or no coup.
Akintola left Lagos immediately for Ibadan to strategize on the way forward but as fate would have it, the coup plotters got hold of him that day and he became a story till today.
Vice president Osibanjo, undoubtedly the best VP Nigeria ever had since her inception of Democratic government, so famous for his discipline and thorough policies cum philosophy.
He’s on a daily basis gaining fans and sympathy from across divides hence his hatred amongst the power that be!.
He was widely believed to have been the brain behind any reasonable policies implemented by this administration, especially the strides he makes while his principal is either on a vacation or medical tour.
You all could recalled, Late 2017 while president Buhari was still receiving medical attention in London, the vice president sacked the embattled DG of DSS, LAWAL Daura on account of gross indiscipline and in competency, the move was greeted with much euphoria amongst the populace and the lost comfidence in Buhari’s government was a bit restored but that singular act cripples his chance within the corridor of power, especially with the cabal which Daura is a powerful member.
The VP maybe just maybe did not Realize this hence his action.
There are countless numbers of policies made by the VP that was without tangible reason reversed by the presidency while the citizens were not adequately briefed on the reasons they were reversed.
Some months ago, we were greeted with the sordid news of the removal of VP as the chairman of Economic Management Team, a position which constitution legally gives to him was cheaply withdrawn with no tangible evidences or indictment.
He was equally removed as chairman of many agencies he spearheaded and one could not stop wondering what’s actually playing out
Just this week, The VP “academics” Abba Kyari took to the bill of an offshore amendment acts to the president in London for assent and constitution demands handling of power to the subordinate while the president was away but this was not strictly followed here and to make matter worst, while having a capable VP like Osibanjo, the bill was transported to Baba in London for assent.
Some days ago, we read the purpoted news of the sacking of some of the aides of the VP totalling 35, such that never happen before in our history as a Nation.
All this and many other instances show how embattled the VP is under this current dispensation.
Balewa had never believe he’s in danger until the problem consumed him totally.
Osibanjo, Maybe he thought he’s in safe hand but let nobody tell me he was.
The situation is glaring for individual assessment.
I hope the VP won’t at last be the proverbial sacrificial lamb.
Our referred “star boy” is soon becoming a useless puppet in the hand of the cabal.
Let the VP do the needful before the travails finally consumed him.
We want our “star boy” in his usual manner back.
May Nigeria succeed.
