Lifeless body of mentally-challenged man recovered from Asa river in Ilorin
A lifeless body of a mentally challenged man has been recovered by the operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service on Wednesday, at Asa river along Emir’s road, Ilorin.
According to reports, the incident occurred at about 11:06 am, causing palpable fears among the residents living at the area.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, while confirming the development in a statement, said the cause of the drowning could not be immediately ascertained.
“The recovered body was later handed over to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, for further necessary action,” the statement said
The statement, while quoting the Director, Kwara State Fire Service Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed sympathy over the unfortunate incident, while advising members of the public to exercise caution and avoid risky movements around riverbanks and other water bodies to prevent similar occurrences.
In a related development, the Kwara State Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the State fire service, has successfully evacuated the lifeless body of an unidentified human body at Taiwo Isale Bridge, Ilorin.
The Commissioner for Environment Hajia Nafisat Buge, in a statement issued by the secretary of the ministry, Shakira Murtala, stated that the body was discovered during her official supervision of sweepers in Ilorin metropolis.
According to her, the decision was to ensure a sustainable, healthy and conducive environment in the state.
The said that the emergency unit of the Ministry and the team of fire fighters were deployed to the scene for evacuation immediately to prevent potential environmental hazards, spread of communicable diseases and ensure proper fumigation of the area.
The commissioner, however, while appreciating the prompt response of the state fire service, urged residents to report to the Ministry immediately they notice such occurrences in their areas, adding that such incidences are threats to citizens and businesses.
