Late equalizer denies Kwara United victory against El-Kanemi
Kwara United Football Club was denied a much-needed victory on Wednesday as El-Kanemi Warriors netted a late equalizer to force a 1-1 draw in their match day 2 outstanding fixture in Maiduguri.
The Harmony Boys were on the verge of securing all three points after Emmanuel Ogbole put them ahead in the second half, converting a penalty awarded for a foul inside the box.
Despite El-Kanemi‘s aggressive play, Kwara United’s defense, anchored by goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmus and defenders Yahaya Ibrahim, Anthony Anioke, and Kabiru Mohammed, held firm for much of the match.
However, in the dying moments of stoppage time, El-Kanemi’s Risilanu Ismail scored from a corner kick in the 94th minute, shattering Kwara United’s hopes of victory.
After the game, Kwara United coach Tunde Sanni praised his team’s discipline and effort but expressed disappointment at the late equalizer.
He urged fans to remain supportive as the team looks to bounce back in upcoming fixtures.
Kwara United, now with 10 points from 8 games, will face Rangers International at the Kwara State Stadium in Ilorin on Monday, October 28.
