Lagos Governor Pardons AKINDELE, Releases 56 inmates

The Multi-Millionaire movie star, Funke Akindele, and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello were pardoned by the Lagos Governor together with 56 inmates released from various correctional centres in the state.

It could be recalled that the couples were non-custodial offenders for offences relating to defiance to COVID19 regulations in April 2020.

The duo was arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court 1 Ogba, Ikeja by detectives from the state criminal Investigation department Yaba, led by DCP Etude Long, and was sentenced to 14days community service, and required to pay fines of 100,000 each for breaking the COVID19 directives in Lagos state.

The prerogative mercy was disclosed in a statement signed by the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onibanjo (SAN), and made available to News Agency of Nigeria(NAN).

The Commissioner for Justice said that the Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, acted in strict compliance with the proviso of Section 212(1) & (2) of the constitution based on the recommendation of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy.

He equally encouraged the 56 inmates pardoned to strive to be law-abiding citizens and stay away from crimes.
