Lagos Assembly approves motion on girl child protection
The House of Assembly in Lagos State has approved a motion demanding better protection of female children.
The House, which earlier approved laws in consideration of the gender, has thanked the state government for doing wonderfully well to protect the girl child.
Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker, has presided over a parliamentary session in honor of the 2022 International Girl Child Day.
The parliamentarians have commended non-governmental organisations for their contribution to the course through advocacy.
The speaker said the International Day has given opportunity for all to address the challenges which include the trafficking, violation of minors, cultism and drugs abuse.
“It is also an opportunity to scrutunise the performance of government agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting the girl child”, he added.
Hon. Mojisola Alli-Macaulay, who championed the motion, said the 2022 theme ‘Our Time is Now – Our Rights Our Future’ is a demand of recognition of girl power, inclusiveness and political participation of the gender.
Alli-Macaulay revealed that manner the House of Assembly has enacted the Child Right Law and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law was another means of legislature’s contributions.
