Kwara youths deserve better treatment from govt – YPP

…berates Kwara govt’s clampdown on critics

Youths in Kwara State deserve better places in the society, better treatment from the government and a better future for themselves, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the state has said.

The Publicity Secretary of the party, Titilope Anifowoshe in a statement issued in commemoration of the 2021 International Youth Day appreciated the youths for their resilience and perseverance in the face of political oppression, dilapidating health care system, education, and massive unemployment. She stated that International Youth Day is a special day where the world comes together to celebrate young people and renew commitment to do all that can be done to support them.

The party expressed sadness at the current situation of the youth and urged the youth stakeholders to intensify effort on political participation and direct their energy, skills and population to causes aimed at alleviating the suffering of the youth.

“Since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, we have been deeply saddened to see images of young persons and Kwarans being subjected to horrific abuse and to hear about the surge in youth unemployment, food scarcity and poor healthcare.

“Our agenda is geared towards ensuring that every child, adolescent, young person and adult in Kwara have access to good governance and sustainable development. We have recently opened our e-membership registration, the first of its kind in Nigeria. We appeal to every Kwaran without a voters’ card to get theirs and join us.”

The party berated Kwara Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq on the recent arrest and detention of young politicians, they advised him to stop playing politics with youth development and invest in the development of more equitable and resilient food systems, health care, and conservation of biodiversity in Kwara.

Anifowoshe urged Kwara youths to open their eyes to the reality that politics remains one of the most significant ways of making a real difference in Kwara, and YPP is the most viable means to restore idealism to our political process.

She furthered that the youths of Kwara must know that by withdrawing from participation in politics, their opinion/choice becomes unheard and invisible to the larger society, there making youths the weakest constituency. Therefore, political participation is necessary to achieve social justice.
