Kwara SWAN deepens Digital competence of members through Refresher training

The Kwara State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the digital competence of sports journalists through targeted capacity-building initiatives.

This follows the successful conclusion of a Digital Media Refresher Training held at the Taiwo Awoniyi Media Centre, George Innih Agbazika Stadium Complex, Ilorin, where members were exposed to modern trends in digital journalism and content creation.

Facilitated by the Chief Executive Officer of 132 Media, Mr. Tijani Ajara, the training featured practical sessions on online audience engagement, multimedia storytelling, and the use of digital tools for effective sports reportage.

Speaking at the event, the SWAN Chairman, Mr. Ayodeji Ismail, said the association was deliberate about preparing its members for the demands of the new media landscape, stressing that continuous learning remains vital for professional relevance.

“Digital transformation is redefining how journalists tell stories and connect with their audiences. SWAN Kwara is determined to ensure that our members stay ahead through practical knowledge and innovation,” Mr. Ismail stated.

He commended Mr. Ajara for his impactful facilitation and urged members to apply the skills acquired to improve the quality and reach of their reports.

The session, which drew participants from various SWAN chapels across the state, climaxed with the presentation of certificates of participation to members who completed the training.

The digital media refresher forms part of SWAN Kwara’s broader effort to build a digitally savvy corps of sports journalists capable of leveraging technology to promote sports development in the state and beyond.
