The Kwara state police command has condemned in a strong term a report published by a leading Pro-democracy group in Kwara, Kwara Must Change (KMC) expressing serious concern over the dubious activities perpetrated by police officer against motorist and other road users in Kwara State.
It is in the wake of this report that Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ag. CP Kayode Egbetokun issued a press release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP, Okesanmi Ajayi to refute KMC report, stating that the story is unsubstantiated and capable of stirring up mischief, he added that the command under his tutelage will not entertain any unprofessional behavior among officers.
“The attention of the Kwara State Police Command was drawn to an article on some social media platforms as titled above. The Command wishes to state that the writer of this piece must either be referring to Kwara State Police Command of the past, or the piece is just being recycled to cause mischief. The Commissioner of Police Kwara State Command, Ag.Cp Kayode Egbetokun has succeeded in redefining policing in the State, erring police officers arrested are strongly punished if found culpable, while officers and men knows the consequences of being caught in the web of corrupt allegations. It is also pertinent to know that the Commissioner of Police had earlier released three telephone numbers which members of the public could call to report any misconduct by any police officer to the Commissioner of Police directly for necessary actions, but up till this moment no report of any of the cases painted by the writer has been received.”
He further stressed that the command his disposed to accepting constructive criticism, claiming that the CP operates an open door policy as channels of communication have been made available to members of the public.
While not painting officers and men of the Command as saints, the Command can convincingly confirm that Kwara State Police Command’s officers are not as bad as being painted. Constructive criticism by well meaning individual or group is welcomed at all times, channels of communicatiing with the Commissioner of Police are available to any interested person or group of persons, rather than resort to publishing and posting unsubstantiated reports of this nature.
The Command wishes to also reiterate her commitment to policing with global best practices and respect to rights and dignity of every citizens, please. He added.
