Kwara reopens schools as security operatives clamp down on bandits

The Kwara State Government has announced the reopening of all schools across the state from Monday, February 2, 2026, following sustained security operations aimed at neutralising threats to public safety.

The decision was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, who said school authorities had already been informed.

According to the commissioner, the reopening comes amid improved security conditions resulting from ongoing operations by security agencies to flush out criminal elements, including bandits, and safeguard vulnerable locations such as schools.

“The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before. Even so, we continue to maintain vigilance,” the statement read.

Dr Olohungbebe added that security operations remain ongoing to consolidate the gains recorded in recent weeks, while the state government continues to strengthen community resilience alongside kinetic security measures.

The state government reassured parents, teachers and students of its commitment to ensuring the safety of learning environments, urging all stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies as schools resume academic activities.

The reopening marks a significant step towards restoring normal academic activities in the state after security concerns prompted disruptions in the school calendar.
