Tragedy struck the Kulben community in the Kombun District of Mangu local government area, Plateau State, as a fresh attack on Sunday night claimed the lives of 11 individuals, leaving an unknown number of others injured and properties destroyed.
The victims included community members who were on patrol, bravely guarding their community against threats.
Nanret Ishaya, a resident, recounted the harrowing events: “Armed Fulani militia launched an assault on Kulben village around 10:00 pm on Sunday. Tragically, 11 lives were lost, while others sustained injuries, and property was left in ruins. Preparations are underway for a mass burial to honor the victims.”
Efforts to reach Captain James Oya, the Media Officer of Operation Safe Haven, for more information were unsuccessful at the time of this report, as he did not answer his calls.
However, the spokesman for the State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident, stating, “We are aware of the events that transpired last Sunday night.
The DPO has been actively engaged since 2 a.m., and we are eagerly awaiting his comprehensive report at the headquarters.”
