Kwara reinforces ban on sidewalk trading in Ilorin metropolis

The Kwara State Government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining public order by prohibiting trading on walkways, pedestrian paths, and newly rehabilitated roads throughout Ilorin Metropolis.

According to a statement from Ahmed Kayode Abdulquadri, the Assistant Press Secretary of the Ministry of Works, this directive applies to important areas, including Emir’s Road, Zulu Gambari Road, Post Office Area, Isale Oja, and Idi Ape.

The government stated that the ongoing road upgrades seek to ease traffic congestion and enhance safety; however, transforming these roads into makeshift markets would hinder governmental efforts, endanger lives, and disrupt the free flow of vehicles.

The statement added, “From now on, anyone found trading in these areas—or on any public walkway—will face the full wrath of the law.” Relevant task forces and security agencies have been tasked with enforcing this ban.

Traders and vendors are urged to relocate to designated markets and trading zones in order to support the government’s initiative. “Let’s work together to keep Kwara clean, safe, and organized,” the statement concluded.
