The Director of Public Health in the Kwara State Ministry of Health, Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode, has said the state is ready to combat any outbreak like cholera just as it effectively managed the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fakayode, who was on a tour to Moro Local Government Area together with the Ministry’s Rapid Response team, tasked residents with maintaining basic hygiene, hand washing, clean environment, safe waste disposal, and utilization of health facilities.
He assured that the rapid response team will ensure adequate community sensitisation, noting that access to care would be duly pursued to enable optimum care and attention for any sick member of the community.
The Rapid Response Team, Dr. Dayo Awoyale, for his part, identified Malaria, Cholera and Upper Respiratory Tract infections as common health challenges often associated with the rainy season and posing threat to the well-being of the people in the society.
The medical expert, who is also the Deputy State Epidemiologist, disclosed that raining season often comes with multiple challenges which are essentially relevant to our health and general wellbeing as a community.
Dr. Awoyale noted that this was the basis for the increased community sensitisation and support for health care services in the identified communities that are usually prone to outbreaks of epidemics such as cholera.
