Kwara Lawyer Seeks N1billion Damages From EFCC Over Alleged Humiliation

The former Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ilorin branch, Sulyman Abaya, today, filed a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to court, requesting N1billion damages.

Recall that the zonal office of the Commission had indicted Abaya for ripping off one pastor Adetunji Adedoyin of his property estimated at N20 million, thereby coercing him to carry placard which has inscription of alleged criminal conspiracy, forgery and obtaining money by false pretence.

Abaya, who was represented by 13 lawyers in the law court demand before Justice Hameed Gegele, of the Kwara State High court, the enforcement of his fundamental human right and a public apology.

Justice Gegele in his verdict adjourned the case to 27th of September to allow applicant serve second and third respondent processes.

In his conversation with sobi FM Judiciary correspondent Toyin Saheed, the applicant counsel, Abdulrasheed Alajo, revealed that the court adjourned the case to allow them enough to summon other respondents.

He concluded that the lawyers hit the court to challenge injustice, dehumanization orchestrated against their associate by the anti corruption agency, disclosing that the act must be nipped in the bud.
