Kwara law students appeal for immediate release of law school scholarship funds
The National Association of Kwara State Law Students (NAKLAS) National Headquarters has appealed to the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to expedite the release of scholarship funds for Kwara indigenes currently enrolled at the Nigerian Law School for the 2023/2024 academic session.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, the association commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his sustained commitment to education and youth development in the state. However, NAKLAS expressed concern over the mounting financial challenges faced by law students awaiting their Call to Bar, urging prompt disbursement of the scholarship funds.
AbdulRauf AbdulBasit, NAKLAS National President, emphasized the critical importance of the scholarship to beneficiaries, stating, “We commend Governor AbdulRazaq for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Kwara students. However, we are appealing for the prompt disbursement of the Law School scholarship, which remains a vital source of support for many.”
The 2023/2024 scholarship recipients comprise two groups: Batch A, consisting of students currently awaiting their Call to Bar, and Batch B, who are awaiting the release of their Bar Final results. Both batches are expected to be called to the Nigerian Bar between July and November 2025.
NAKLAS disclosed that a formal request letter for the scholarship funds was submitted to the Governor’s office on April 29, 2025. The association further highlighted the longstanding history of the scholarship program, which has consistently provided essential financial relief to Kwara State indigenes at the Nigerian Law School.
The statement added, “We are hopeful that the Governor, whom we regard as a father figure to all students, will once again rise to the occasion by supporting this year’s beneficiaries, just as he has done since 2019.”
Additionally, NAKLAS reminded the state government of the upcoming 2025/2026 academic session students, who will soon require similar financial assistance.
The association reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for the academic and professional success of all Kwara law students, both within Nigeria and in the diaspora.
