Kwara Law students announces Lateef Akangbe SAN as guest speaker for national conference

The National Association of Kwara Law Students(NAKLAS) has announced legal luminary Lateef Omoyemi Akangbe, SAN as the guest speaker for its upcoming National conference.

The conference is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 3rd June, 2026 at Arca Santa Arena in Ilorin by 9:00am.

He will be speaking on a topic “the consequences of assigning a constitutional role to traditional rulers in Nigeria in the ongoing constitutional reform.”

The guest speaker is a highly respected legal practitioner, distinguished for his strategic expertise in dispute resolution, tax litigation, capital markets, public law and corporate law.

As the Managing Partner of Sofunde, Osakwe, Ogundipe & Belgore, with a career spanning over two decades, he leads the firm’s Dispute Resolution practice, advising multinational corporations, financial institutions, and government entities on complex and high-stakes legal matters.

His exceptional work in tax law earned him a key role as a former Africa Membership Officer of the International Bar Association’s Taxes Committee, where he champions African interests in global tax discussions.

The major highlight of the event will be the formal launch of a book written in honor of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, who is also a retired Judge.

The book is titled “the Bar, the Bench, and the Crown;a living legend contribution to law &Justice in Nigeria”.

Similarly, an award of recognition will be presented to first generation of lawyers in Kwara State at the historic event.

The awardees include; Late AGF Abdulrasaq (SAN) the father of the current Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq. The Late AGF is reputed to be the first lawyer in the whole of northern Nigeria.

Also to be awarded are, Justice Alfa Belgore, the former Chief Justice of the federation, late Justice Muhammed Babatunde Belgore, Late Justice Saidu Kawu, Late Justice Mustpha Akanbi and late Dr. Aliyu Alarape Salman(SAN).
