Kwara launches Anthrax vaccination campaign for livestock protection
Kwara State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Hon. Oloruntoyosi Thomas-Adebayo, has urged Vaccinators of Anthrax vaccination campaign for livestock protection to focus on safety and teamwork during the ongoing campaign.
Thomas-Adebayo, while speaking in Ilorin during the flag-off, highlighted the campaign’s essential role in preventing zoonotic diseases within the state.
Addressing the Vaccinators through Mallam Yusuf Rafiu, the Director of Personnel, Finance, and Supply of the Ministry, the Commissioner stressed the necessity of the exercise, stating, “The Anthrax Campaign is vital for protecting public health and the economy, as anthrax poses significant risks to both animals and humans.” She warned of the disease’s potential to spread through the movement of trade animals, particularly ruminants, emphasizing the government’s commitment to implementing proactive measures.
Dr. Olugbon Abdullattef Saliman, the Director of Veterinary Services, further encouraged the Vaccinators to uphold professionalism and collaborate effectively, aiming to ensure that all livestock in the state is vaccinated within the stipulated time frame.
Additionally, Alhaji Muhammad Umar Ahmed, the Director of Livestock, called on local farmers to take advantage of the vaccination campaign by bringing their animals for immunization. He revealed that Veterinary Personnel have been assigned to all 16 Local Government Areas to facilitate vaccination efforts.
Alhaji Muhammad also appealed for the cooperation of Local Government Chairmen, Traditional Rulers, and all stakeholders to ensure the success of the campaign, urging Vaccinators to demonstrate dedication and professionalism throughout the vaccination process.
