An agency of the Kwara state government, Kwara Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) commences weekly market sanitation exercise which will be observed every Thursday of the week, the General Manager of the agency, Alhaji Saad Ayuba Dan-Musa disclosed.
Dan-Musa said coming up with the idea of the exercise is basically meant to inculcate the habit of cleanliness into the life of the citizenry of Kwara state at large.
He said that Executive Committees in all major markets in the state had been contacted on the monitoring and enforcement of the exercise.
He stated that the sanitation will be observed between the hours of 8:00am to 10: 00am, adding that proper monitoring will be done to check the level of compliance in the market vicinity.
For her part, the Iya loja of Oja Oba market, Mrs Rihanat Abdul Wahab, commended the efforts of the government and the agency in making sure the act of cleanliness is imbibed by people for healthy living.
She said this motivated the positive turnout of the marketers in observing the weekly sanitation exercise, while imploring the concerned ministry to help in curbing the issue of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the Ilorin metropolis.
