Kwara, in collaboration with PEBEC hosts workshop to propel business reforms

The Kwara State Government, in collaboration with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), convened a technical workshop and town hall meeting on Monday to propel ongoing reforms under the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms.

This initiative was shared in a statement released by the Press Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Babatunde Toyin Abdulrasheed.

Held in Ilorin, the event gathered stakeholders from both public and private sectors, including members of the State Executive Council, local government officials, judiciary representatives, marketers’ associations, artisans, and business leaders.

Dr. Hauwa Nuru, Chair of the State Ease of Doing Business Council and Commissioner for Finance, emphasized that the workshop aimed to raise awareness about ongoing business reforms and enhance collaboration among stakeholders.

She stated, “This technical workshop offers us the opportunity to review the current reform roadmap… and strengthen our implementation strategies to ensure we meet and exceed SEBER performance targets, among other goals.”

Nuru highlighted the significant strides made by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration towards improving the business climate and ensuring transparency.

She added, “Through SABER, we have clear opportunities to enhance the efficiency of land administration and business registration… promote measurable transparency and accountability in governance.”

Commissioner for Communications, Bola Olukoju, mentioned that the government utilizes social media platforms to disseminate information about its activities and foster robust engagement with various segments of society.

Nafisat Buge, Commissioner for Environment, spoke about the administration’s initiatives aimed at creating a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all Kwarans and investors.

Mrs. Folashade Omoniyi, Chairperson of the State Internal Revenue Service, discussed the enabling environment being created for businesses, along with recent national tax reforms aimed at harmonizing tax collections.

Representing PEBEC Director General Zahrah Audu, Shima Kennedy stated, “The Council’s mandate is to deliver Nigeria’s business environment reform… to improve the perception about ease of doing business in Nigeria.”

The event concluded with a panel discussion led by Kennedy, during which participants proposed ways to enhance government-stakeholder relationships. Alhaji Jimoh Adesina, Chairman of the State Artisan Congress, and Hajia Muibat Olumo, Iya Loja General of Kwara State, praised the administration’s business-friendly initiatives and called for increased support for artisans and marketers.
