Kwara State Government has warned the contractors in the state against delivering substandard jobs.
Mansurat Amuda-kannike, Ministry of Works’ Press Secretary in a statement said that the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, TPL. Isiak Yinka Oloruko-Oba gave the warning on Tuesday at a meeting held with some selected contractors.
Oloruko- oba said that any job short of expected quality by contractors will not only be unacceptable but also be seen as a deliberate sabotage of the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure for the comfort of the citizenry.
He disclosed that the Ministry has put in place a special task force that will soon embark on inspection of all construction projects, both completed and ongoing, in a bid to achieve proper service delivery in that sector.
For their part, Mr. Toyin Moshood Bolaji, of Treeforest Nigeria limited, who spoke for the other contractors, lamented how the hike in prices of materials has negatively affected the sums of their awarded contracts.
He appealed to the state government to pay them up to enable them complete the outstanding works in their respective sites.
Mr. Bolaji requested the Ministry to take note of some of the newly constructed school buildings already in use, claiming that his members should not be held responsible for any damage the Ministry’s officials may see in the course of inspection.
